Organic animal farming has become one of the organic management methods for planting or putting pastures in feed bases. Organic animals are weeding and pest-killing crops, such as rice-field duck farming, rice-crab farming, and fruit-forest chicken raising. The scale of breeding is often limited by the ability of feed supply. Farmers should not expand the scale of breeding in order to maximize the benefits, and must determine the scale of feed supply capacity.
Organic standards encourage farms to use the farm's organic feed base and feed produced by organic farms in the region.
The first is more controllable in feed production, ensuring the quality, quality and variety of feed, and reducing the production cost of feed (transportation costs, etc.);
The second can reduce the long-distance transportation link, reduce the energy consumption of organic feed production, and more in line with the concept of organic agriculture;
Wastes such as feces and litter from the third farm have enough land to be consumed.
For feed shortages that occur under unpredictable conditions, regular feeds can be used, but must be approved by a certification body and the scale meets the standards. Farmers often mistakenly believe that conventional feed can be used unconditionally, while ignoring the licensing terms and conceptually contrary to organic farming.
The organic product standard is based on animal nature and specifies the proportion of refined roughage in the diet. Especially for herbivores, omnivores do not have specific requirements, but they must also feed roughage, green hay or silage every day. This may reduce the animal's performance. If conditions permit, farmers can adopt a pattern of grazing to effectively solve the problem of roughage sources, while also effectively supplementing minerals and trace elements in grazing.
For feed additives, farmers often think that it is impossible to add any feed additives, which is a misunderstanding. Although many feed additives are banned in the organic product standard, minerals and vitamins derived from natural sources (animal-derived additives must comply with organic product standards) are permitted. EU and Canadian standards allow the use of vitamins and minerals of conventional origin without the natural sources of vitamins and minerals or natural sources of vitamins and minerals that do not meet the animal's own needs. After the revision of China's organic product standards, vitamin and mineral sources were also restricted.
